Ara : A married woman was set ablaze and seriously injured at her in-laws’ place at Basawan Tola under Piro police station in Bhojpur District in South Bihar on October 4, 2020. She was admitted to Ara Sadar Hospital where the doctor referred her to Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH) in view of her critical condition. The woman was identified as Rekha Devi, wife of Santosh Sharma of Basawan Tola under Piro police station.
A named FIR has been lodged by Piro police station against her husband and few others on the statement of Rekha Devi’s father Ishwar Sharma. Police are investigating the matter and also conducted raids to arrest the named accused who are absconding since the incident.
Ishwar Sharam of Jethwar village under Tarari police station said that her daughter Rekha Devi was married to Santosh Sharma of Basawan Tola under Piro police station in 2014 and has two children Ayush, 3, and Chandani, 1. He alleged that his son-in-law Santosh Sharma is a drunkard and always thrashed his wife Rekha Devi in drunken state. On October 4, 2020, Santosh Sharma started abusing his wife Rekha Devi in drunken state and when she protested, he set her afire and escaped along with his family members from the place. On getting information about the incident, Ishwar Sharma reached Basawan Tola and rushed Rekha Devi to Piro CHC but the doctor sent her to Ara Sadar Hospital where the doctor referred her to PMCH.
