Gopalganj: An attempt was made to kill a married woman Mamata Devi by setting her ablaze on Friday evening after she returned to her in-law’s house at village Bishunpur under Jadopur police station in Gopalganj district after tying rakhi to her brother.

As per the versions of the villagers, Mamata Devi, a native of Sudha Sah Tola under Manjha police station, was married at village Bishunpur. The villagers said that as Mamata returned to her in-law’s house on Friday evening, her husband and other family members poured kerosene oil on her and set her ablaze.

Mamata was admitted to Gopalganj Sadar Hospital where the attending doctors referred her to Patna Medical College and Hospital in view of her serious condition. The woman’s family members have lodged a written complaint against her in-laws. Her husband and relatives are absconding after the incident. Jadopur police station SHO Rakesh Mohan said that raids were on to arrest those involved in the heinous crime.
