Saharsa : Runa Devi, who was forcibly administered poison allegedly by her husband Chhotu Yadav and his elder brother Subesh Yadav on June 21, 2017, at her maternal grand-father Jaikaran Yadav’s house at village Khamouti under Simribakhtiarpur police station in Saharsa district, died on July 4, 2017, during treatment.

Jaikaran Yadav has lodged an FIR with Runa’s husband Chhotu Yadav and her in-laws in this connection. Runa was married to Chhotu Yadav, son of Narsingh Yadav of village Rauta Khem under Saurbazaar police station in Saharsa district and was ever since being tortured by her husband, his father, his brother Subesh, mother Jamni Devi and Bhabhi ( sister-in-law) Sajan Devi  to bring more dowry, Jaikaran Yadav alleged. Runa was daughter of Shivan Yadav of village Godrah under Salkhua police station in Saharsa district but had been living with her maternal grand-father Jaikaran Yadav after death of her parents.

Jaikaran said that since her in-laws often beat her for dowry, he had brought her over to village Khamouti and also got a dowry case filed in the CJM court, Saharsa. Jaikaran said that on June 21, Chhotu and his brother Subesh reached his house when he was sitting on the verandah. They did not speak to him and went inside and started talking to Runa. After sometime, they came out and left for their village.

When Jaikaran called Runa out to know what Chhotu and Subesh told her, she did not respond. After which he went inside house and was shocked to see Runa lying unconscious and rushed her to a doctor with the help of villagers who said she had been administered poison. SHO, Simribakhtiarpur, Umashankar Kamat, said police were investigating into the incident
