Woman, mother assaulted at Bikramganj court gate

Sasaram : Sarita Devi and her mother were assaulted and injured allegedly by former’s in-laws at the gate of the Bikramganj civil court on June 15, 2017, when they were returning after deposing before the court in a dowry related case. No one came to their rescue though the assault continued for about 30 minutes . Later, Sarita freed herself from the clutches of her tormentors and reached  Bikramganj police station where she lodged a named FIR against her in-laws.

SHO, Bikramganj police station, Akram Ansari said that Sarita’s in-laws have escaped after locking the door of their house after the incident. Sarita Devi of village Amratha village under Karakat police station was married to Neeraj Singh of village Bardiha village under Bikramganj police station in 1998 and was being allegedly tortured by her in-laws for dowry ever since. She has two sons and a daughter with Neeraj. When she failed to meet the dowry demands of her in-laws, they beat her up and forcibly pushed her out of the house in 2010. Neeraj later married another girl.

Finding no solution, Sarita Devi moved the court and filed a case against her husband and in-laws. On June 15, when they were returning from the court, Sarita’s  husband, Neeraj Singh, father-in-law Sahdeo Singh, mother-in-law Tetara Devi, brother-in-law (devar) Munna Singh, elder brother-in-law Arun Singh, uncle-in-law Vindhyachal Singh and sister-in-law (devrani) Sushma Devi assaulted them.
