Woman killed in accident on Dhandiha Road in Bhojpur

Ara : A speeding truck knocked down a middleage woman on June 5, 2019, morning, on Dhandiha Road under Koelwar police station in Bhojpur district, killing her on the spot. The deceased was identified as Poonam Devi, 45, wife of Kamakhya Singh of village Sundara under Koelwar police station.

Irate villagers blocked Ara-Patna main road with the body paralysing movement of vehicles for about two hours. They burnt tyres on road and raised slogans against the district administration and demanded compensation of Rs 10 lakh to the next of kin of the deceased. The villagers also made the driver and khalasi of the truck captive and thrashed them. The blockade was  lifted after positive response from the police officers. Later, police arrested the driver and khalasi and seized the truck. Police brought the body over to Ara Sadar Hospital for post-mortem.

SHO, Koelwar police station, said that Poonam Devi had come to her parents’ place  at Dhandiha. She was on morning walk on June 5 when a speeding truck knocked her down resulting in her death.
