Ara : A newly married woman was  poisoned to death at village Hasanpura under Ara Muffassil police station in Bhojpur District on August 16, 2020, late evening, for Rs. 3 lakh cash more as dowry. The deceased was identified as Mamata Devi, 21, wife of Vikas Kumar of Hasanpura village.

Police brought the body over to Ara Sadar Hospital for post-mortem. A named FIR has been lodged with  Ara Muffassil police station against the husband and in-laws of the deceased and police are investigating the matter.

 SHO, Ara Muffassil police station, quoting the FIR, said that Mamata Devi, daughter of Kameshwar Prasad of Chhitnawa village under Maner police station in Patna district, was married to Vikas Kumar, son of Rajesh Rai of Hasanpura village under Ara Muffassil police station, on June 30, 2020. One motorcycle, Rs 3 lakh cash and other articles were given at the time of marriage still Mamata’s in-laws tortured her for Rs 3 lakh more.

On the complaint of Mamata Devi, her father Kameshwar Prasad took her to Chhitnawa. Two days ago, Vikas Kumar came to his in-laws’ place and took her wife Mamata Devi with him with a promise of good behaviour but her ordeal once started again and at last her in-laws allegedly poisoned her. When her condition deteriorated, they admitted her to a private clinic at Ara where she breathed her last. Her in-laws escaped from the scene leaving the body behind.

The SHO, quoting deceased’s brother, said that Mamata Devi had informed about the incident from mobile of unknown person. On getting information, they rushed but she had died before they could reach there.
