Sitamarhi : A Parsauni Police Station (PS) team in Sitamarhi District in North Bihar recovered half-charred dead body of one Vigni Devi, 22, from funeral pyre at village Sundargama on April 7, 2020. Vigni Devi had died at her house under mysterious circumstances on April 7 and her in-laws had declared her dead. But, they did not inform her father and family about her sudden death and started her cremation hurriedly at adjoining bamboo grove.
Vigni Devi’s father Kant Lal Rai has lodged an FIR under Dowry Prohibition Act against five persons including her husband Ajay Rai alleging she was killed for more dowry by her in-laws. Kant Lal Rai, in his FIR, said that she was married two years back and was frequently being tortured for dowry. The deceased’s in- laws are absconding. After autopsy, the body was handed over to her father.
