Woman killed for dowry at in-laws’ place at Rohtas village

Sasaram : Sonali Devi, 25, woman was beaten to death at village Karmaini under Sanjhauli police station in Rohtas district on February 9, 2019, night, for dowry at her in-laws’ place. The body was hanged to the ceiling to give it a colour of suicide.

Police recovered the body hanging from the ceiling and brought it over to the Sasaram Sadar Hospital for post-mortem. A named FIR was lodged with Sanjhauli police station on the statement of the father of the deceased, Kameshwar Yadav, against five persons including Sonali’s husband Manish Kumar and father-in-law Vakil Yadav but no arrest has so far been made in this regard.

Quoting the FIR, SHO, Sanjhauli police station, Subhash Kumar, said that Sonali Devi, daughter of Kameshwar Yadav of village Ghoshia under Bikramganj police station in Rohtas district, was married to Manish Kumar of Karmaini under Sanjhauli police station in 2013 and was given several valuables articles besides a handsome amount in cash at the time of marriage. Ever since her marriage, Sonali was being tortured by her in-laws for more dowry and when their demands were not fulfilled, they killed her, the SHO added.
