Ara : Sushanti Devi, wife of Anil Yadav, was strangulated to death at her in-laws’ place at village Jamuaw under Sandesh police station in Bhojpur district just for a motorcycle. The body was thrown into a field.

Police recovered the body on June 26, 2019, and brought it over to Ara Sadar Hospital for post-mortem. An FIR was lodged with Sandesh police station against Sushanti’s husband and in-laws including her mother-in-law but no arrest has so far been made in this connection.

SHO, Sanesh police station, said that Sushanti Devi of village Jokata under Chandi police station in Bhojpur district was married to Anil Yadav of Jamuaw village under Sandesh police station on May 2017. Six months after her marriage, her in-laws tortured and thrashed her for a motorcycle and sent her to her parents’ place at Jokata. They were not ready to accept her till their demand of motorcycle was fulfilled. After intervention of villagers, they agreed to accept her but demanded Rs 1.5 lakh in lieu of motorcycle.

Narendra Kumar, brother of the deceased, said that Anil Yadav called him on mobile to say that no one would go to Jokata to bring Sushanti back and if she wishes to return, she might come on her own. Later, he said, Sushanti was droppedĀ  at Jamuaw just four days ago but her in-laws thrashed and allegedly strangulated her to death.
