Gopalganj: People at the Mauniya Chowk were surprised to see a woman bashing up a man on January 30. Later, the woman got the man arrested by the cops of Mahila police station. The woman is the fifth wife of the arrested person identified as Nejamuddin Ansari, a native of Balua Tola under Jadopur police station in Gopalganj district.

Eyewitness said that Ansari had on November 17, 2016, had married Zarina Khatoon, his fifth wife, a native of village Pakhopali under Thawe police station. Both were living as husband and wife after that. The witnesses said that for the past one week, Ansari had started saying `talaq’, `talaq’ and `talaq’ to his wife. This agitated Zarina, who went to her father’s house. The villagers informed and cautioned Zarina about her husband’s intention of marrying again. She returned to her in-law’s house to stop the marriage of her husband.

The witnesses said that as Zarina reached Mauniya Chowk, she saw her husband with his girlfriend and started bashing him up. Sensing the gravity of the situation, the girl escaped from there. On getting information, cops from Mahila police station reached there and arrested Ansari.

Zarina told Mahila police station SHO Sarita Kumari that Ansari has already married four women and has a 12 year old daughter from his first wife. She said that he has deserted his three wives. After marrying her, Ansari was going to marry for the sixth time, she told the SHO.

Mahila police station SHO Sarita Kumari said that Ansari was going to marry for the sixth time after divorcing his fifth wife. She said that action would be taken against him as his wife has submitted a written petition to the police.
