Sasaram : A pregnant woman died at a private clinic located at Godari Bazaar under Karakat police station in Rohtas district on July 27, 2019, at the time of delivery. After the death of the woman, the doctor fled away from there.

Later, police recovered the body and sent it to Sasaram Sadar Hospital for post-mortem. A named FIR has been lodged with Karakat police station against the doctor Sita Kumari. Police are investigating the matter and also conducting raids to arrest the doctor.

SHO, Karakat police station, Santosh Kumar Singh said that a pregnant Meera Devi, 25, wife of Bijay Singh of village Kanchan Bigaha under Karakat police station came to the Primary Health Centre (PHC) at Godari for delivery but an ANM there sent her to a private clinic at Godari Bazaar saying better medical facilities were available there. But the doctor there could not provide proper medical facilities at the time of delivery and the woman died though the newborn child survived. Hearing about the death of the woman, her family members and villagers assembled at the private clinic. Seeing the crowd, the doctor closed the clinic and fled away.

Local residents said that a number of quacks are practicing at Godari Bazaar putting their name plates with fake degree for the last several years but authorities remain unconcerned. They alleged that these quacks are hand in glove with the Civil Surgeon (CS) of Rohtas.

When contacted, Rohtas CS refuted all charges and said he had no knowledge about quacks and fake private clinics at Godari Bazaar and added he would himself inquire into the matter and legal action would be taken against the quacks and fake private clinic and nursing homes would be closed.
