Ara : A  woman, who was declared dead by her brother in early 2020,  has been recovered by Bhojpur police from Delhi. Police brought her back to Ara. Police produced her before an Ara court and got her statement recorded under Section 164 of CrPC. In her statement, the woman said that she was married and has children and added that as her husband married another woman, she too tied knot with another man.

Bhojpur SP Har Kishore Rai said that Binod Mahto of village Nawadiha under Shahpur police station in Bhojpur district, brother of the woman Sharada Devi, had lodged a complaint case at an Ara  Court claiming his sister had been killed for dowry.  An FIR regarding dowry death was lodged with Nawada police station, Ara, on December 11, 2020,  on the direction of the court, in which Sharda Devi’s husband husband Arun Mahto of Govind Tola (Brahmwar) under Piro police station in Bhojpur district, his brother Master Mahto, sister-in-law Sarita Devi, and his nephew Vikas Mahto, were made named accused.

In the FIR, it was said that Sharda Devi was married to Arun Mahto 15 years ago but was ever since being tortured physically and mentally allegedly by her in-laws for a buffalo. When their demand was not be fulfilled, she was killed in March 2020 and the body disappeared. Sharda’s brother claimed that when he reached her in-laws’ house,  neither she was found nor her in-laws.

The SP said that after institution of FIR, police swung into action and started investigating the matter. During investigation, police got information that the said woman was living in Delhi after which  a police team went to New Delhi and recovered her and brought her back to Ara.
