Woman burnt to death at in-laws’ place for bike in Bhojpur, no arrest

Ara : Sona Devi, daughter of Munna Paswan of village Pahadi Chak under Bagen police station in Buxar district, was burnt to death at her in-laws’ place at village Vaina-Jamunipur under Agiao Bazaar police station in Bhojpur district on March 17, 2019, night, for a motorcycle in dowry. Her in-laws were preparing to perform her last rites in a haste to erase evidence when family members of the deceased reached there and informed police.

Police immediately swung into action and seized the body from the pyre and brought it over to Sadar Hospital, Ara, for post-mortem. Seeing the police, the in-laws of the deceased escaped from the place. A named FIR has been lodged by Agiao Bazaar police station against the husband and mother-in-law of Sona Devi on the statement of her father Munna Paswan of village Pahadi Chak but no arrest has so far been made in this regard.

SHO, Agiao Bazaar police station, said that Sona Devi, daughter of Munna Paswan of Pahadi Chak in Buxar district, was married to Sikandar Ram, a mason of village Vaina-Jamunipur under Agiao Bazaar police station in Bhojpur district in April 2017 and she came to her in-laws’ place in February 2018 and was ever since allegedly being tortured by her in-laws for a motorcycle in dowry and when their demand was not fulfilled, they burnt her to death.
