Ara : Some armed miscreants shot dead a widow near Chatpathi Mor under Piro police station in Bhojpur district on on August 12, 2019, late evening, and escaped firing in the air.

Police recovered the body and brought it over to Ara Sadar Hospital for post-mortem. The deceased was identified as Devanti Kuer, 60, wife of Ambika Singh. Property dispute is said to be the cause behind the murder. A named FIR has been lodged with Piro police station against six persons including the elder brother-in-law (bhaisur) of the deceased and police are investigating into the incident and  conducting raids to arrest the accused.

SHO, Piro police station, said that Devanti Kuer lived in Ward No 13, Piro, and she had some dispute over a plot worth about Rs 1.5 crore with her family members. He said that Devanti Kuer had gone to her parents’ house at Dalippur under Jagdishpur police station in Bhojpur district. She was returning home on August 12, 2019, and was waiting for a vehicle near Chatpathi Mor under Piro police station when three motorcycle borne armed miscreants came and pumped two bullets into her body killing her on the spot and escaped from the spot scene firing in the air.

After the death of her husband about 40 year ago, Devanti Kuer, who had no issue, reportedly wanted to register the plot in the name of her father which her family members protested. It was also said that all the papers had been prepared and the registry of the said land was to be done on August 13, 2019.
