Patna : West Indies (WI) launched a brutal assault on Indian bowlers scoring 207/5 in 1st T20I at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, Hyderabad, on December 6, 2019, with Shimron Hetmyer scoring 56 in 41 balls hitting 2 fours and 4 sixes and opener Evin Lewis making 40 in 17 balls with 3 fours and 4 sixes. India won the toss but elected to bowl. WI captain Kieron Pollard scored 37 in 19 balls hitting a four and 4 sixes. WI batsmen hit 15 sixes in the match.

WI batsmen were hitting sixes and fours at will taking all the bowlers to the cleaners.  WI lost their first wicket at 13 when opener Lendl Simmons fell to pacer Deepak Chahar for 2. Evin Lewis then added 51 runs with Brandon King for the second wicket. Lewis fell to spinner Washington Sundar for 40. King fell to spinner Ravindra Jadeja for 31 in 23 balls with 3 fours and a six. Shimron Hetmyer and Kieron Pollard added 71 runs for the 4th wicket. Hetmyer fell to spinner Yuzvendra Chahal. Pollard also fell to  Chahal in the same over. Jason Holder remained unbeaten on 24 in 9 balls with a four and 2 sixes and Denesh Ramdin remained unbeaten on 11.

For India, Yuzvendra Chahal took 2/36 in 4 overs while Deepak Chahar took 1/56 in 4 overs. Ravindra Jadeja took 1/30 in 4 overs while Washington Sundar took 1/34 in 3 overs.
