Patna : West Indies (WI) comfortably beat England by four wickets in the first test at The Rose Bowl, Southampton, UK, in the final session of play on Day 5 as middle order batsman Germaine Blackwood, 28, scored 95 in 154 balls hitting 12 fours, missing what would have been his 2nd test century by just 5 runs. It is WI’s second win over the host in England since the year 2000.
The WI now lead the three-test series 1-0. Set a target of 200, WI scored 200/6 recovering from 27/3. WI fast bowler Shannon Gabriel, who took 9 wickets in the match – four in England first innings and five in second, was declared Man of the Match. WI captain Jason Holder said Blackwood was outstanding.
