Patna : West Indies (WI) defeated England by 7 wickets in the 5th and final ODI at Darren Sammy National Cricket Stadium, Gross Islet, St Lucia, on March 2, 2019, night, to level the five-match series 2-2. Fast bowler Oshane Thomas, 22, was named Player of the Match for taking 5/21 while opener Chris Gayle, 39, was named Player of the Series. The 3rd ODI was abandoned due to rain on February 25, 2019. West Indies had won the three-match test series 2-1.
Asked to bat by West Indies who won the toss, England were all out for only 113 in 28.1 overs on a fast and bouncy wicket with Oshane Thomas bowling at a brutal pace. Opener Alex Hales and wicketkeeper Jos Buttler scored 23 each while captain Eoin Morgan fell to Oshane Thomas for 18. Joe Root fell to WI captain Jason Holder for 1 while Moeen Ali fell to Oshane Thomas for 12. Opener Jonny Bairstow fell to fast bowler Sheldon Cottrell, 29, for 11.
WI attained the target in 12.1 overs only with opener Chris Gayle scoring 77 in 27 balls with 5 fours and 9 sixers destroying the England bowlers. WI scored 115/3. Mark Wood took 2/55.
