Patna : West Indies (WI) defeated Sri Lanka (SL) by 8 wickets in 1st ODI at Sir Vivian Richards Stadium, North Sound, Antigua, on March 10, 2021, late night, as opener Shai Hope (wk) scored 110 in 133 balls with 12 fours and 1 six while his opening partner Evin Lewis scored 65 in 90 balls hitting 4 fours and 2 sixes. Lewis and Hope added 143 runs for the first wicket.

Hope and Darren Bravo added 72 runs for the 2nd wicket. Bravo remained unbeaten on 37 in 47 balls hitting 2 fours and 1 six while Jason Mohammed remained 13 not out. Set a target of 233, WI scored 236/2 in 47 overs to take a 1-0 lead in the three-match ODI series.

Earlier, electing to bat after winning the toss, SL were all out for 232 runs in 49 overs with openers Dhanushka Gunathilaka and Dimuth Karunaratne (captain) scoring 55 ( 7 fours) and 52 ( 4 fours) runs respectively. Gunathilaka and Karunaratne added 105 runs for the first wicket in 19.2 overs. Ashen Badara scored 50 runs in 60 balls with 4 fours. Angelo Mathews was run out for 5 while Dinesh Chandimal (wk) fell to spinner Fabian Allen for 12 runs.

Shai Hope was declared Player Of The Match. WI captain Kieron Pollard described the batting of Hope as amazing.
