Patna : West Indies (WI) defeated Bangladesh by 8 wickets in the first T20I at Sylhet International Cricket Stadium, Sylhet, Bangaldesh, on December 17, 2018, riding on 55 in 23 balls with by opener Shai Hope 3 fours and 6 sixes and an unbeaten 28 in 14 balls with 1 four and 3 sixes by Keemo Paul. West Indies attained the target of 130 losing just two wickets in just 10.5 overs. Opener Evin Levis was out for 18 in 1 balls with a four and a six. Nocholas Pooran remained unbeaten on 23 with 3 fours.
Earlier electing to bat after winning the toss, Bangladesh were all out for 129 in 19 overs with captain Shakib Al Hasan scoring 61 in 43 balls with 8 fours and 2 sixes and Ariful Haque 17 in 18 balls. Openers Tamim Iqbal and Liton Das were out for 5 and 6 runs respectively. Wicketkeeper Mushfiqur Rahim was run out for 5. Soumya Sarkar was also out for 5.
For West Indies, fast bowler Sheldon Cottrell, 29, took 4/28 and Keemo Paul 2/23. Oshane Thomas, captain Carlos Brathwaite, and Fabian Allen took one wicket each. Cottrell, a soldier in Jamaica, was declared Man of the Match.
