Patna : West Indies were 214/2 in their second innings in the first test against New Zealand at Basin Reserve, Wellington, New Zealand, at stumps on day three on December 3, 2017, with Kraigg Brathwaite batting on 79 in 186 balls hitting 7 fours and a six while Shai Hope 21 not out in 66 balls hitting fours.

Earlier, Keiran Powell was out for 40 in 66 balls hittinf 5 fours and 2 sixes  while Shimron Hitmyer was out for 66 in 89 balls hitting 8 fours and 2 sixes. Both the wickets were taken by Matt Henry. West Indies were all out for only 134 in their first innings with New Zealand paceman Neil Wagner taking 7/39.

New Zealand declared their first innings at 520/9 on December 3 with wicketkeeper Tom Blundell on an unbeaten 107, his first test century in his debut test, made in 180 balls hitting 13 fours and a six while Trent Boult remained not out on 18 hitting a four and a six. All rounder Colin de Grandhomme made 105 in 74 balls, Ross Taylor 93 and Henry Nicholls 67. Jeet Raval made 42.
