Patna : World No 18 Stan Wawrinka, 34, Switzerland, and World No 119 Jannik Sinner, 18, Italy, advanced to semi-finals of European Cup, an ATP 250 points event, at Antwerp, Belgium, on October 18, 2018, both wining their respective quarter-finals matches in three-sets.

Wawrinka, the 4th seed, edged past World No 47 Gilles Simon, 34, France, 6-3, 6-7, 6-2 in 2hr 14 minutes in quarter-finals . Wawrinka, the winner of three Grand Slam titles, won 5 break points in the match to 1 Simon. Wawrinka broke Simon’s service twice in the 3rd set. Both the players won 3 games each in the match. The Swiss won 64 service points in the match to 51 by the French. Simon though fired 6 Aces in the match to 5 by Wawrinka.

Sinner upset World No 53 Frances Toafoe, 21, USA, 6-4, 3-6, 6-3 in 1hr 41 minutes in QFs. Sinner fired 10 Aces in the match to 7 by Tiafoe. Both the players won 3 games each in a row in the match. The Italian though won 2 break points to 1 by the American. Sinner won 56 service points to 53 by the American. Sinner has reached his first ATP tour SFs.
