Wawrinka, Millman, Tiafoe enter 2nd round of ATP Mexican Open

Patna : Winner of 3 Grand Slam titles Stan Wawrinka, 33, Switzerland, and World No 44 John Millman, 29, Australia, entered the second round of Mexican Open, an ATP World Tour 500 points tournament played on hard courts, at Acapulco, Mexico, on February 26, 2019. World No Rafael Nadal, Spain, is the top seed in the tournament while World No 3 Alexander Zverev is the second seed. World No 9 John Isnrer is 3rd seed.

Wawrinka, the World No 42, beat World No 93 Ryan Harrison, 26, USA, a qualifier, in straight sets 6-4, 7-6 in the first round. Warinka fired 9 Aces in the match to 2 by Harrison. Harrison committed 3 double faults to 1 by Wawrinka. Wawrinka broke Harrison’s service twice in the match while the latter broke his service once. Bothe the players won 3 games each in a row in the match.

Millman beat World No 115 Marcel Granollers, 32, Spain, a qualifier, 6-3, 6-4 in the first round. Millman served 3 Aces in the match. He broke Granollers’ service 4 times during the match while the latter broke his service twice. Millamn won 4 games in a row in the match to 2 by Granollers.

World No 36 Steve Johnson, 29, USA, beat World No 552 Gerardo Lopez Villasenor, 23, Mexico, 7-5, 7-5 in the first round in 1 hr 50 minutes. Johnson fired 7 Aces in the match to 6 by Villasenor. Johnson, however, also committed 6 double faults to 3 by Villasenor. John broke Villasenor’s service 4 times while the latter broke his service twice. Johnson won 3 games in a row in the match to 2 by Villasenor.

World No 34 and 6th seed Frances Tiafoe, 21, USA, beat World No 79 Jordan Thompson, 24, Australia, in three- sets 3-6, 6-4, 6-3 in 2 hr 6 minutes the first round. Thompson though fired 11 Aces in the match to 5 by Tiafoe. But, he also committed 5 double faults to none by Tiafoe. Tiafoe won 5 games in a row in the match to 3 by Thompson.
