Wawrinka, Lopez enter 2nd round of ATP Indian Wells Masters

Patna : World No 40 and winner of three Grand Slam singles title Stanislas Wawrinka, 33, Switzerland, and World No 78 Feliciano Lopez, 37, Spain, entered the second round of ATP Indian Wells Masters at California, USA, on March 9, 2019.

Wawrinka, winner of 16 career titles, beat World No 100 Dan Evans, 28, England, in three sets 6-7, 6-3, 6-3 in 2 hrs 8 minutes first round. Wawrinka fired 7 Aces in the match to just 1 by Evans. Wawrinka broke Evans’ service 5 times in the match while the latter broke his service twice. Both the players won 3 games each in a row. Wawrinka will face World No 31 Marton Fucsovics, 27, Hungary,  in second round.

Lopez beat World No 81 and 2010 Wimbledon finalist Tomas Berdych, 33, Czech Republic, 7-6, 7-6 in a tough contest in first round. Lopez, who has won 6 career titles and had reached Wimbledon QFs in 2005, 2008, and 2011 and US Open QFs in 2015, hammered 15 Aces in the match to 4 by Berdych. Berdych committed 4 double faults to 2 by Lopez. Lopez also won 3 games in a row. Lopez will face World No 13 Karen Khachanov, 22, Russia, in second round.

World No 67 Hubert Hurkacz, 22, Poland, World No 53 Radu Albot, 29, Moldova, World No 68 Robin Hasse, 31, Netherlands, have also entered the 2nd round.
