Sitamarhi : The  torrential rain on July 28, 2020, in Sitamarhi district and in the catchment areas of Nepal once again raised the water levels of major rivers such as Bagmati, Lalbakeya  Jhim, Rato, Maraha, Marar, Manushamara, Lakhandei, and Hardi. All rivers are flowing above danger marks at several places in the district.

The district administration has further intensified patrolling on embankments. Altogether 119 Panchayats under 13 blocks in Sitamarhi District in North Bihar are reeling under the flood. Sursand, Parihar, Choraut, Bokhara, Bajpatti, Runnisaidpur, Belsand, Dumra, Riga, Suppi, Bairgania,Sonbarsa, and Bathanaha blocks have been devastated by the flood. Shelter homes are functional under several blocks. A few community kitchens are serving food to the flood ravaged villagers under Parihar, Sonbarsa and Runnisaidpur blocks.
Road communication hasn’t been restored in the affected areas due to water between Sitamarhi-Sursand, Sitamarhi-Parihar, Sitamarhi-Sheohar, and Lagma-Bhasepur.
Meanwhile, the residents of Bachcharpur fished out the body of one Chandan Kumar Mandal, 23, from a nearby ravine. He was missing for the past two days.
Many social workers including Sanyukta Kisan Sangharsh Morcha president Anand Kishore have demanded that the whole Sitamarhi district be declared flood ravaged. The farmers have lost their standing crops and vegetables due to flood, they added.
