Bettiah : West Champaran District Magistrate (DM) Lokesh Kumar Singh, in a communication to the SPs of Bagaha and West Champaran and SDM’s of Bagaha, Narkatiaganj and Bettiah besides Sugarcane Development officers of Bettiah and Ramnagar circle in West Champaran on March 1, 2017, asked them to check sugarcane smuggling into Nepal through the porous border route near Babhanauli and Proshotumpur village under Narakatiaganj sub- division.
The commandant of 44th battalion, SSB, Rajesh Tikku, had earlier informed the District Magistrate about the smuggling of sugarcane and sought his help in checking it. Tirupati Sugars Ltd, Bagaha, General manager (personnel) Y S Bhatanagar has also urged the district administration to check sugarcane smuggling from Dhanahiya and Chakadahawa into Nepal through Susta (encroached forest land in Indian territory).
Sources said that sugarcane loaded on bullock carts and tractors are being smuggled into Nepal through porous border routs due to enhanced rate of sugarcane there compared Bihar. SDM, Bagaha, Dharmendra Kumar has directed SHO, Valmikinagar police station, to check sugarcane smuggling on Indo-Nepal border.
