VKSU students leaders on fast fall ill, admitted to Ara Sadar Hospital

Ara :  At least a dozen student leaders who are on fast unto death for the third consecutive day on the campus of Veer Kuer Singh University (VKSU), Ara, fell ill on July 5, 2018, and were admitted to  Ara Sadar Hospital. The students are protesting the indifferent attitude of the VKSU to problems facing the sudents besides pressing their 12 point demands.

The entire VKSU campus has been converted into police camp as heavy police force has been deployed there to maintain law and order. Working of the university as well as teaching work have been adversely affected due to agitation by the students.

Dr Prateek, Ara Sadar Hospital, said that the condition of the students is serious but stable. Their condition deteriorated due to lack of water and fast, he said.

Dozens of boarders of a Post Graduate girls’ hostel on the campus of the VKSU led by VKSU students’ union president, Amit Kumar and other student leaders, sat on a fast unto death in front of the office of the Pro-Vice Chancellor, VKSU, Nand Kishor Sah, in protest against non- supply of food to the girls’ hostel inmates for the last three days and delay in publication of BA Part II pending results (session 2015-2018) after rectification. They are also demanding suspension of Deputy Superintendent, Caretaker and Incharge of the girls’ hostel.

Meanwhile, a large number of students from the Mahanth Mahadevanand Mahila College (MMMM), Ara, also sat on dharna on July 5 in support of the agitation and raised slogans against the university officials.

The deteriorating condition of students leaders on fast has unnerved the VKSU administration and Pro-VC, Nand Kishor Sah, Registrar Col Shyamanand Jha, Dean, Students Welfare (DSW) Kundan Kumar Singh, Examination Coordinator Sanjay Kumar Tripathy and others had several rounds of talk with the protesters but to no avail.

Registrar and DSW said that all the demands of the students have been conceded. Mess has been started in the PG girls’ Hostel and the students have to pay Rs 1,800 per month as ever. Two extra staffs will be appointed in the hostel, inquiry into the sale of old answer- books will be held after order from the governor’s office, basic amenities will be restored within two or three days, and a proposal has been sent to the RUSA for the construction of boy hostel on the new varsity campus.

Pro-VC Nank Kishor Sah said that date for the BA part III examination will be announced by the last week of July or first week of August. He said that students who had applied for rectification of their results till June 23, 2018, their results will be published by July 10, 2018 and added that those who failed to apply for the rectification of their results so far, may now apply till July 10, 2018, in their respective colleges and their results will be published after rectification by July 20 and sent to their respective colleges.

Students’ union president, Amit Kumar said that the agitation would not be called off till the VKSU administration concedes their demands in toto.
