Ara : Veer Kuer Singh University (VKSU), Ara, Senate passed a deficit budget of Rs 693 crore for the financial year of 2017-2018 amidst pandemonium and protest at its meeting on March 11, 2017.

Presenting the budget, Dean Students Welfare (DSW), Satyanarayan Singh said that the university is expected to receive about Rs 692 crore from the government and is expected to earn about Rs 3 crore from its internal sources. He said that about Rs 153 crore will be spent on the payment of salary of teachers and non-teaching employees of the colleges and university, about Rs 170 crore on payment of retrial benefits of staffs, around Rs 250 crore on arrear payment and leave encashment, Rs 176 crore on ACP, Rs 19 crore on contingency, and Rs. 4 crore on computerization and security besides other expenditure. He said that about Rs 3 crore will be earned as the fees from the students.

Prior to the meeting, hundreds of students under the banner of Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishak (ABVP), National Students Union of India (NSUI), Janata Dal (United) and the All India Students Association (AISA) locked the gate of the meeting hall and staged dharna raising slogans against the VKSU administration. They were demanding removal of the Examination  Controller, cancellation of the BEd and Pre Ph. D results, arrangements of basic amenities in colleges and University, proper infrastructure, and announcement of date for the students’ union election.

The meeting started after the Vice-Chancellor, VKSU, Sayyad Mumtajuddin assured them to take appropriate action very soon with regard to their demands. A member raised question mark on the legality of the Senate saying its election had not been held for the last 10 years. He said that when the Senate is illegal, how can it pass the budget. Some other members also expressed their concern over the issue.
