VKSU gears up to implement UGC guidelines for new research scholars

Ara : Students seeking to undertake research in any subject have not only to appear at the Pre-PhD examination but also go through the interview. The University Grant Commission (UGC) had set new guidelines for the new research scholars in 2016 and the Governor’s Secretariat has agreed to the registration in the Ph.D in all the universities of Bihar on this basis. This regulation will be called Amended Ordinance and Regulation for PhD degree.

Registrar, Veer Kuer Singh University (VKSU), Ara, Col Shayamanand Jha, said that the VKSU administration is determined  to implement the regulation in letter and spirit and a three member committee comprising Prof Jamil Akhtar, Prof Anand Bhushan Pandey, and Prof Diwakar Pandey, Head of the Department of Bhojpuri, has been formed prior to start of admission to the Ph.D course. He said that the research scholars, who are already been registered, will be guided by the old rules. The admission process under the new regulation would be adopted once in a year though no change has been made in the number of students for the supervisors.

The Registrar said that the VKSU administration has planned to conduct pre Ph.D examination after three years and it  will be held on the basis of available vacancy in every subject. The number of vacancies has been sought from the Examination Department and after it is received, the VKSU administration would publish notification and the students would fill up the forms, Col. Jhe said. He said that pre Ph.D results would be valid up to three years of the date of publication of the results. He said that the Pre-Ph.D examination will have two papers of 100 marks each—first paper will of multiple choices while the second one will be from the subject concerned.

The Registrar said that the qualifying marks for general category is 55% while for the SC/ST category it is 45%. He said that Ph.D course work is necessary for the research scholars. The new regulation has fixed the grade and marks for the Ph.D course work.
