Ara : The indefinite strike by the non-teaching employees of different colleges under Veer Kuer Singh University (VKSU), Ara, has adversely affected the teaching and non-teaching works in 16 out of 17 constituent colleges under the university located in Bhojpur, Buxar, Rohtas and Kaimur districts. The non-teaching employees of Mahara College are not the part of the strike due to some differences with their organization.
Hundreds of students of BA, BSc, BCom Part III (2017-2018) session are a harried lot as majority of them have not been issued their admit cards while their examination is scheduled to commence from October 4, 2018.
The non-teaching employees are on indefinite strike since September 4, 2018, to press their 12 point demands including payment of salary on time and notification of agreements reached earlier between them and the officials of the varsity. Though several rounds of talks have been held between the striking employees and the officials of the varsity yet there has been no breakthrough.
The students of Mahanth Mahadevanand Mahila Mahavidyalay (MMMM) and Jagjiwan College created ruckus and damaged property of colleges in protest against non-issuance of their admit cards. They were pacified after the VKSU administration arranged distribution of admit cards at separate places like H P D Jain School and H N K School, Ara. Students were seen in long queue since October 3, 2108, morning to get their admit cards for the exams.
Neha Kumari, an examinee, said that she along with other girls has reached Ara around 9 am covering 16 km to 25 km for the admit cards but could not get the same till 2m. She said that she has no time for revision of the subject for the examination.
The acting Vice-Chancellor, VKSU, Nand Kishor Sah said that at least six rounds of talks had taken place between the non-teaching staff and the VKSU administration and the varsity administration had accepted most of their demands but they are still on strike. He said that the non-teaching employees want the payment at their own term but the VKSU administration is adamant to distribute the arrear as per the direction of the State government and added that the arrears of the employee had been sent to their respective colleges but they were yet to take a call.
Sah said that altogether 41 examination centres have been made for the graduation part III examination scheduled to start from October 4, 2018. He said the colleges where the non-teaching employees are on strike have not been made examination centres and efforts are on to provide admit cards to the students. He said if some of the students fail to get admit cards before the examination, they can collect the same from their examination centres.
