Patna : World No 93 in ATP rankings Albert Ramos-Vinolas, 31, Spain, World No 135 Casper Ruud, 20, Norway, and World No 90 Laslo Djere, 23, Serbia, entered the quarter-finals of Rio Open, an ATP World Tour 500 points tennis tournament, at Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, on February 22, 2019.

Albert Ramos-Vinolas beat World No 89 Federico Delbonis, 28, Argentina, 3-6, 7-5, 6-3 in the Round of 16 in 2 hr 20 minutes. Vinolas broke Delbonis’ service 4 times. Delbonis broke Vinolas’ service thrice. Both the players committed 5 double faults each. Vinolas won 6 games in a row in the match while Delbonis won 3.

Casper Ruud beat World No 40 Joao Sousa, 29, 6-3, 3-6, 6-4 in the Round of 16 in 2 hr 11 minutes. Both the players fired 5 Aces each in the match. Ruud though committed 9 double faults to 6 by Sousa. Rudd broke Sousa’s service 5 times. Sousa broke his service 4 times. Ruud won 6 games in a row to 3 by Sousa.

Laslo Djere beat World No 73 Taro Daniel, 26, Japan, 6-4, 6-2 in the Round of 16 to enter the QFs. Djere fired 13 Aces in the match to none by Daniel. He also broke Daniel’s service thrice in the match besides winning 5 games in a row. Djere will face Ruud in the QFs on February 23.

World No 63 Pablo Cuevas, 33, Uruguay, beat fast rising Juan Ignacio Londero, 25, Argentina, the World No 69, 6-1, 6-4 in the Round of 16 to enter the QFs. Cuevas broke Londero’s service thrice in the match besides winning 3 games in a row. Cuevas fired 5 Aces in the match to 2 by Londero, who had recently won the Cordoba Open title at Cordoba, Argentina, his first ATP title. Cuevas will play Vinolas in the QFs.
