Bagaha: Police had to resort to mild lathichare near State Bank of India chowk at Naraipur, Bagaha, on August 16, 2018, to remove a blockade on NH 28 (b) by the people protesting the brutal killing of a youth Sudarshan Bind, 25, son of Banarsi Bind of village Balakahawa under Chiutaha Police Outpost in Bagaha police district, on August 15, 2018.
Sudarshan Bind was assaulted and then strangulated to death by some persons on August 15 near Balakahawa Sareh. After hectic search, police brought the body over to Sub-Divisional Hospital, Bagaha. After autopsy, police handed over the body to the parents for the last rites. The family members of the deceased and co-villagers reached near SBI, Naraipur chowk branch, in large number on August 16 morning and blocked the NH 28(B) putting the body on the road.
As a result, Bagaha -Valmkinagar, Bagaha- Semara, Bagaha-Bettiah roads remained paralysed for about two hours. The protesters were demanding immediate arrest of culprits besides presence of DIG, Champaran range, on the spot. The parents of the deceased and the protesters alleged that five members of the same family including Sudarshan Bind had been killed by the assailants since 2002 but police had failed crack these cases.
Bagaha SP Arbind Kumar Gupta along with his sub-ordinates reached the spot soon after getting information about the blockade and started persuading the protesters to lift the blockade but they remained firm on their stand. Ultimately, police had to resort to mild lathicharge to disperse the protesters after which traffic was restored.
SP Gupta said that six persons were made named accused in the FIR lodged by deceased’s father Banarasi Bind of which two : Ghegha Mian and Lalmohammad, had been arrested and SDPO, Ramnagar, Randhir Kumar, has been instructed to arrest remaining accused at the earliest.
