Patna : Bihar CM Nitish Kumar on December 29, 2017, said the state has witnessed  tremendous improvement in power position since he came to power in 2005 due to which even people living in villages now enjoy televisions and air-conditioners. Addressing a public meeting at village Parpar under in Ariari block in Sheikhpura district as part of his statewide ‘Vikas Samiksha Yatra’, Nitish, however, cautioned the people against wasteful consumption of electricity.

“When NDA came into power in 2005, peak power demand in the state used to be around 700-800 MW. By 2012, things had started looking up and the peak power demand had risen to more than 1,700 MW. Things have improved even more rapidly in the last few years and the figure reported in October 2017 was in excess of 5,000 MW,” Nitish said.

Addressing a gathering at village Aagat under Halsi block in Lakhisarai district, Nitish said his government was sensitive to the employment needs of men and women and hence engineering colleges, polytechnics and industrial training institutes were being set up across the state. “We are also running schemes like students’ credit card which helps boys and girls to continue with their studies without worrying about the financial position of their parents or guardians,” he said.

Referring to his campaign against dowry and child marriage, the CM said, ” Both these problems are inter-related. If dowry is eradicated, child marriages will also stop.” At both his public meetings, Nitish cautioned the people against illicit liquor.
