Sitamarhi : Furious over loot of cash from a shopkeeper, a mob of over two hundred villagers lynched two criminals, both residents of village Basahiya, to death at Sonbarsa block headquarters in Sitamarhi District in North Bihar on March 10, 2020. The locals caught a fleeing criminal Md Shahrukha Khan, 21, near Nandipat Jitu High School and lynched him. They also lynched another criminal Md Qasim, 27, to death near NH 77. But, the third criminal fled away with the snatched bag containing cash of over Rs 2 lakh leaving their bike behind. The mob set ablaze the bike.
A stationary shopkeeper of Sonbarsa Bazar Ram Pravesh Mahto, who is also in currency exchange business at Sonbarsa township bordering Nepal, was on way to his shop carrying a handbag containing cash when three motorbike borne armed criminals accosted him and snatched his bag. Mahto started crying after which a mob chased the three criminals. Due to nervousness their motorbike turned turtle and the criminals started fleeing on foot but the mob caught two of them.
Sitamarhi  Sadar SDPO K V Dhirendra along with a police team visited the place of occurrence and raids are  on to nab third criminal. It may be mentioned here that half a dozen persons have lost their lives during last two years due to collapse of law and order under Sonbarsa  block. 
Incidentally, Holi is being celebrated in Sitamarhi District on March 11, 2020, as  non-vegetarian items are generally not taken on Tuesday (March 10).
