Ara : Several used PPE kits were found thrown on the heaps of garbage at the gate of Ara Sadar Hospital on June 20, 2020, making the people living in the vicinity of the hospital apprehensive as street dogs were seen tearing them apart. The doctors and para-medical staff engaged in examining and treating coronavirus patients at Ara Sadar Hospital use PPE kits and later they throw them into the dustbinĀ instead of burning them at a separate place. The sweepers at Ara Sadar Hospital later throw the used PPE kits on the heaps of garbage at the gate of the Sadar Hospital.
Superintendent, Ara Sadar Hospital, Dr Satish Kumar Sinha, said that the matter had not come to his knowledge and if it had so happened, it is a serious matter. He said that the sweepers would be directed not to throw used PPE kits in the open. He added even doctors would be directed that disposal of PPE kits is as important as using them.
It may be mentioned here that Ara Sadar Hospital lacks system for disposal of medical waste. All types of medical waste are thrown in the open either on the campus of Ara Sadar Hospital or on the heaps of garbage at its gate. The sanitation work is assigned to an NGO but it seldom does its job sincerely.
