Bagaha : Water level of different hilly rivers is slowly receding in West Champaran district despite moderate rains. According to a report released from Gandak Barrage, Valmikinagar, water discharge in river Gandak dropped to 1.3 lakh cusec on July 3, 2018. It had reached about 1.5 lakh cusec on July 2.

Efforts are being made by the respective Nagar Parishad authorities to drain out rain water logged in low lying areas at Bettiah, Bagaha, Narakatiaganj towns. Spary of bleaching powder in the drains and pits will start from July 4, 2018. Sources at Nagar Parishad, Bagaha, said the flow of drain water on the roads was causing traffic probem.

Meanwhile,  Additional District Magistrate Kushinagar district (UP) Krishnakant Tiwari, Khadda(UP) SDM Arbind Kumar, Executive Engineer, Irrigation, Kushinagar district, S K Priyadarshi accompanied by Jayashnkar Tripathi, MLA from Khadda (Kushinagar district), visited  village Shripatinagar under Piparasi Anchal in West Champaran on July 3 to take stock of the flood situation and  danger posed by river Gandak river. A Guide Bund was built for protection of village Shripatinagar  but in August 2017 it was breached in over hundreds metres and is yet to be repaired.
