Patna : World No 42 Pai Yu Po, 28, Chinese Taipei, stunned World Champion P V Sindhu, 24, India, in the first round of Fuzhou China Open, Fuzhou, China, an HSBC BWF World Tour Super 750 event, on November 5, 2019. It is fourth tournament in a row that Sindhu has made an early exit after winning the World Championships title at Basel, Switzerland, on August 25,  2019.

Unseeded Pai Yu Po edged past World No 6 Sindhu in a three-game thriller 21-13, 18-21, 21-19 in 74 minutes at Haixia Olympic Sports Centre. Fuzhou, China. Po won 60 rallies in the match to 53 by 6th seed Sindhu. Both the players won 8 consecutive points each in the match. Sindhu, however, still leads Po 3-1 Head to Head.

Top seed Tai Tzu Ying, 25, Chinese Taipei, entered the second round after her opponent and reigning Olympic Champion Carolina Marin, 26, Spain, retired due to injury in the second game in their first round match having lost the first set 16-21 and trailing 1-13 in the second game.

World No 1 and 4th seed Nozomi Okuhara, Japan, beat World No 21 Chen Xiao Xin, China, 21-16, 21-6 in 40 minutes in first round.  Okuhara, the 2017 World Champion, won 42 rallies in the match to 22 by Xin. She won 6 consecutive points in the match to 4 by Xin. Okuhara now leads Xin 3-1 Head to Head.
