Motihari, headquarters of East Champaran District, is about 20 km away from river Oriya and the Aadhar Cards would not have been found in the river without some people throwing them into it. Postal Superintendent, East Champaran, Satya Narayan Prasad, has ordered an departmental inquiry into dumping  of original Aadhar Cards into river Oriya. A four- member team headed by Postal inspector Rajesh Kumar  will  probe into the matter after collecting the Aadhar cards recovered from the river.

Hundreds of original Aadhar Cards wraped in envelopes were seen floating in river Oriya near Nimoiya village under Chiraiya police station by some youngmen on August 1, 2019. They jumped into the swollen river and fished out around 70 Aadhar Cards. The recovery of Aadhar Cards created sensation prompting district postal  authorities to order an inquiry into the matter. These Aadhar Cards were sent by the government through post-office to the people concerned, but some unscrupulous Postmen allegedly threw them into river Oriya.

It may be mentioned here that the residents of  Motihari town have several times complained against  non- receipt of letters alleging some Postmen dump the general letters and magazines at undisclosed places and never deliver the same to the persons concerned.

Nilesh Kumar, a class X student of village Nimoiya, first saw these Aadhar Cards  floating in river Oriya near village Nimoiya  and collected over 70 of them from the river with the help of his friends. According to him, most of the card holders are residents of Motihari Town.  He contacted one Binay Upadhyay of Motihari and told him that his Aadhar Card  was with him and narrated the whole story to him.

Binay Upadhyay, a Congress leader and victim of  criminal negligence on the part of Postmen of Motihari Post Office, said  the postmen  are reluctant to deliver letters and allegedly destroy them. He urged the PMG  to order a  thorough probe into the matter.  Prof Suman Kumar alleged that the Postmen at Motihari do not bother to deliver unregistered letters or documents, Aadhar Cards, PAN cards, and ATMs.

The Block Development Officer (BDO), Chiraiya, has reportedly seized all Aadhar Cards for proper inquiry  .
