Banka : Two workers were killed in a mishap in the early hours of Tuesday inside the coal handling plant at Kahalgaon Super Thermal Power Project of NTPC in Bhagalpur district. The mishap took place when the conveyor belt of the plant developed problem during the maintenance work and moved in reverse order resulted in overturning of several tonnes of coal on the labourers.

Dilip Gupta, 32, a resident of Kahalgaon village, and Rajiv Bhowmik, 22, a resident of Midnapur in West Bengal, were killed in the mishap inside the coal handling plant when the conveyor belt started moving in the reverse direction and  heaps of coal fell on them. The deceased were said to be contractual labourers associated with the private company that was entrusted with the maintenance work.

General Manager (O&M), Kahalgaon Super Thermal Power Project, T Gopala Krishna, said that they have initiated probe into the incident. Compensation to the dependent family members would be given as per norms, he said and added that the contractor company has announced to pay a compensation of Rs 5 lakh each to the dependent families beside all other help.
