Two died, 9 injured in Giridih road mishap

Giridih: Two passengers of a SUV were killed and 9 others injured after the vehicle in which they were travelling hit a  truck near Dumri Referral hospital on National Highway – 2 (GT Road) under Dumri police station in  Giridih district on Wednesday  afternoon.

The deceased were identified as Umesh Das (40) and his relative of Modidih village under Katras block of Dhanbad district, police said. accident According to the police, the accident took place at around 1. 25 pm when the speeding SUV carrying 11 passengers of the same locality was in its way to Sonapahri, a religious spot located at village Beko under Bagodar block in Giridih district.

“Immediately, after getting information in this regard, a team of local police visited the site of accident and looked into the matter. They took the injured  to Meena hospital at Dumri. While four of the nine injured were referred to the Dhanbad based Patliputra Medical College and Hospital, others are being provided required treatment at Meena hospital,” said Dumri SDPO AK Sinha said.   

“According to the eyewitnesses and the injured, both the vehicles were travelling in the same directionn. The SUV rammed the rear side of the truck  when the heavy vehicle took a left turn near referral hospital. While one of the passengers died on the spot, another succumbed to his injuries during treatment,” the Dumri PS incharge Shyam Chandra Singh. He said a case has been lodged with the Dumri PS in this connection.regard.
