Patna: Two persons were arrested in connection with the murder of an egg seller Shekhar Mahto in Mathani Taal locality under City Chowk police station, Patna, on February 3 night. The arrested persons were identified as Karan  Choudhary and Rajan Kumar, both natives of Malasalami police station under Patna City sub-division.

It may be mentioned here that armed criminals had gunned down Shekhar at his shop in Mathani Taal locality late on February 3 night and escaped. Police also recovered a countrymade pistol, a live cartridge besides an empty cartridge used in the crime. Police said that both the arrested youths confessed their involvement in the crime. Police said that one Shubham Kumar, a friend of the arrested duo, had a quarrel with Shekhar Mahto at a tea stall in Mathani Taal locality in 2016. Shubham was murdered after few days. Hullar Paswan, who was involved in the murder of Shubham, was later murdered.

Police said that even Shekhar before his death had apprehended that both the arrested youth would be murdered. Police further said that fearing their murder, both the arrested youth planned to eliminate him first. One Rajan Kumar was keeping an eye over the movement of police near City Chowk while Karan Choudhary reached Shekhar’s shop and ordered for two boiled eggs. When Shekhar handed over boiled eggs to Karan, he whipped out pistol and fired at him and escaped shouting that Shekhar Mahto had been murderd. Karan hid the weapon used in the crime in the house of his brother- in-law at Llalimli Chowk in Shikarpur locality that was later recovered by the police.
