Tsonga upsets World No 9 Berrettini in 2nd round of in Rolex Paris Masters

Patna : Top seed Novak Djokovic, 32, Serbia, and 2nd seed Rafael Nadal, 33, Spain, have entered the Round of 16 of Rolex Paris Masters at Bercy, Paris, France, winning their respective second round matches in straight sets.

World No 1 and winner of 16 Grand Slam titles Djokovic beat World No 97 Corentin Moutet, 20, France, 7-6, 6-4 in 1hr 46 minutes in a tough contest 2nd round on October 30, 2019, late night. The Serbian won 3 break points in the match to 2 by Moutet. Djokovic also won 4 games in a row to 3 by the French.

The top seed fired 4 Aces in the match to 1 by Moutet. Both the players committed 2 double faults each. Djokovic’s winning percentage both on his first and second serve ( 71 % & 67 %) was much higher than that of Moutet ( 60 % & 53 %). Djokovic won 51 service points to 43 by Moutet.

World No 2 Nadal, who has never won the Paris Masters title, beat World No 43 Adrian Mannarino, 31, France, 7-5, 6-4 in 1hr 48 minutes in 2nd round on October 31, 2019, early morning. Mannarino fired 13 Aces in the match to 8 by Nadal, the winner of 19 Grand Slam titles. Nadal, however, won 2 break points in the match besides winning 3 games in a row. Nadal’s winning percentage both on his first and second serve ( 77 % & 78 %) was much higher than that of Mannarino ( 72 % & 33 %). Mannarino though put up strong resistance to Nadal in the match.

World No 35 Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, 34, France, the 2008 Australian Open finalist, upset World No 9 and 10th seed Matteo Berrettini, 23, Italy, 6-4, 6-3 in 2nd round on October 31 to advance to Round of 16. Tsonga, who had reached French Open SFs in 2013 & 2015 and Wimbledon SFs in 2011 & 2012, won 3 break points in the match to 1 by the Italian. Both the players won 3 games each in a row in the match. Tsonga fired 7 Aces in the match to 4 by Berrettini, who had reached US Open SFs in September, 2019. Tsonga won 41 service points to 32 by Berrettini.
