Patna : World No 3 Stefanos Tsitsipas, 23, Greece, and World No 4 Alexander Zverev, 24, Germany, crashed out of ATP Indian Wells Masters both suffering shock three-set defeat to their less fancied opponent in their respective quarter-final matches.

World No 36 Nikoloz Basilashvili, 29, Georgia, stunned World No 3 Stefanos Tsitsipas in quarter-final defeating him in three-sets 6-4, 2-6, 6-4 in 2hr 10 minutes on October 15, 2021, late night. Both the players won 4 break points each during the match . Both of them also won 3 games each in a row during the match. Tsitsipas though hammered 10 Aces during the match to 5 by the Georgian. Tsitsipas’ winning percentage both on his first and second serve was better than that of 29th seed Basilashvili’s. The Georgian has reached his first ATP Masters SF.

World No 39 & 31st seed Taylor Fritz, 23, USA, upset World No 4 Alexander Zverev in three-sets 4-6, 6-3, 7-6 in 2hr 21 minutes in quarter-final coming back from behind saving two match points. Fritz hammered 10 Aces during the match to 9 by the German. Both the players won 3 break points each and 3 games in a row each during the match. Zverev committed 5 double to 3 by Fritz, who was down 2-5 in the decider.

Basilashvili and Fritz will clash in the semi-final on October 17, 2021.
