Patna : Top seed Stefanos Tsitsipas, 22, Greece, and 3rd seed Nikoloz Basilashvili, 29, Georgia, crashed out of Hamburg European Open, Hamburg, Germany, an ATP 500 point clay court tournament, on July 16, 2021, evening,losing their respective quarter-final matches . But, third seed Pablo Carreno Busta,30, Spain, progressed to the semi-finals of the event.
World No 44 Filip Krajinovic, 29, Serbia, stunned World No 4 Tsitsipas defeating him in a three-set contest 3-6, 6-1, 6-3 in 1hr 59 minutes in quarter-final overcoming 11 Aces hammered by the Greek. Krajinoviv served only 1 Ace during the match. The Serbian, howver, won 5 break points during the match to 2 by Tsitsipas. Both the players won 5 games each in a row during the match. Tsitsipas though committed 5 double faults in the match to 2 by the 6th seed Serbian. Krajinovic, in all, won 83 points in the match to 70 Tsitsipas, who had lost in the first round of Wimbledon Championships recently.
World No 57 Laslo Djere, 26, Serbia, upset 3rd seed Nikoloz Basilashvili in straight sets 6-2, 6-2 in QF winning 4 break points and 5 games in a row. Djere, in all, won 53 points in the match to 33 by Basilashvili. The Georgian committed 7 double faults during the match to 1 by the Serbia. Djere fired 4 Aces in the match to just 1 by Basilashvili. Djere will face Krajinovic in SF on July 17, 2021.
Second seed Pablo Carreno Busta advanced to the SF defeating World No 43 Dusan Lajovic, 31, Serbia, 7-6, 6-3 in QF firing 4 Aces in the match. World No 13 Busta won 3 break points to 2 by 5th seed Lajovic. Both the players won 4 games each in a row during the match. Busta, in all, won 75 points in the match to 61 by the Serbia.
