Patna: The State Transport Department on July 4, 2020, slapped fine on 597 vehicle drivers for violation of road safety rules and other provisions in a special drive undertaken by it across the state for checking use of masks, helmet and seat-belts. Taking action against the vehicle drivers for not wearing masks, helmet or using seat belts, the department slapped a fine of Rs 25.8 lakh on 597 drivers.
The fine was imposed on drivers without masks under `Roko Toko Campaign’ and their counseling was also carried out on the spot. The Team of DTOs, MVIs and ESIs carried out special drives in different districts.
Transport Secretary Sanjay Kumar Agarwal said that directive has been issued for action against those violating road safety rules
besides action against drivers not wearing masks while driving. He said that it has been made mandatory for drivers and
passengers to wear masks during journey.
Agarwal appealed to the people to maintain distance during their journey. He said that special drive for checking use of helmet and seat-belt will be conducted every Saturday. In addition to this, on Saturday and other days, drive to check use of mask will be carried out at auto stands and bus stands.
