Bagaha : The traffic on NH727 was paralysed on July 16, 2019, morning, due to sudden breach in a diversion made to facilitate construction of a culvert between Dumaria and Chautarawa village under Bagaha-1 Block in West Champaran district. Several  heavy vehicles remained stranded on both end of the diversion breached by few rivers in spate and rain water.

SDM, Bagaha, Vijay Prakash Meena, said that efforts were being made to plug the breach to restore  the traffic. Rivers Gandak, Kosil, Bhapsa, Masan, Pandai, Oria  and other rivers originating from Someshwar hill and Nepal, which had inundated around 50 villages under 12 out of 18 blocks of West Champaran district a few days back, are receding though. But, one feet deep water has accumulated at Veterinary Hospita,l Bagaha -1 block, Electric Power Sub- Station, Sub-Divisional Hospital, Bagaha, and under Ward Nos. 22,24,20 ,34, 35 under Nagar  Parishad, Bagaha.

Deputy Superintendent of Bagaha Sadar Hospital Dr A K Tiwari had to leave his official quarter 6 days back as rain water had accumulated there. Nagar Parishad, Bagaha, had deployed  JCB machines to drain out rain water from the Electric Power Sub-Station and Ward N0. 22. Neither the Health Department nor Nagar Parishad  has sprayed  bleaching powder anywhere.

During a visit of some of the villages, this reporter saw trail of  devastation caused by the flood with affected  villages wearing a deserted look as majority of the villagers have left their homes. The few, who dared stay put, are struggling to survive. The flood affected people of Motipur panchayat under Thakaraha block under Bagaha Sub-Division are facing acute shortage of food grains. Many houses in Chakhani Rajawatia panchayat and Ramnagar Nagar panchayat ( Ward N0.1 &16) have collapsed. The flood has claimed three lives in West Champaran. CPI(ML) leader Birendra Gupta said that the paddy crop transplanted by the farmers had been completely damaged in the flood. He urged the government to extend help to such farmers in a big way.
