Tirupati Sugar Ltd asked to clear dues of sugarcane growers or face action

Bagaha : SDM, Bagaha Sub – Division in West Champaran district, Ghanshyam Meena, on March 26, 2018, asked General Manager (GM), Tirupati Sugar Ltd, Bagaha, to start clearing dues of sugarcane growers within two days failing which stern action would be initiated  against the Sugar Mill management.

SDM Meena, in a communication to GM, Tirupati Sugar Ltd, Bagaha, on March 26, 2018, said despite lapse of 45 days of sugarcane crushing, cane growers’ arrears had not yet been paid into in their bank accounts. ” If the management does not start payment of sugarcane price to the farmers within two days, the administration would seek permission from higher authorities to take action against the Tirupati Sugar Ltd management,” the SDM said.

Meanwhile, GM ( personnel), Tirupati Sugar Ltd, Y S Bhatanagar, said that the management was facing problems due to fall in sugar price by Rs 800 to Rs 900 per quintal. The factory has no other source of revenue, he said. On othe other hand, Narakatiaganj and Harinagar Sugar Mills were running distillery and power generation unit, Bhatnagar claimed.

Bagaha Sugar factory had crushed 96,99,813 quintal sugarcane till March 25, 2018, and had paid Rs 160.69 crore till January 2018 to the farmers. Bhatnagar said that Bagaha sugar factory was crushing even rejected sugarcane besides general variety sugarcane while the other two aforesaid sugar mills were crushing only early variety of sugarcane.

Bhatanagar  said that it is not possible to pay the cost of sugarcane on the strength of existing price of sugar in the market. Bihar Sugar Mills Association has urged the state government to sanction the subsidy at the rate of Rs 40 per quintal on sugarcane and appealed the central government to waive GST on sugar export, Bhatnagar added.
