Motihari ; A thunderstorm lashed East Chamaparan District in North Bihar on February 4, 2022, in which several roof hut were blown away. The snow pellets that dropped during the hailstorm caused damages to standing wheat, maize, potato, and oil seeds, in many parts of the district. Litchi blossoms were also damaged.. The thunderstorm, which started at around 11.15 am, continued for around half-an-hour. A mother-daughter due died due to lightning at village at village Thikahan under Pakaridayal Block in East Champaran District on February 4, 2022.
The farmers and agriculture scientists are worried about the harm that would have been caused to rabi crops and fruits. Vijay Pandey, a progressive farmer, said that the hailstorm caused extensive damage to the oilseeds and standing wheat crops.
District Agriculture Officer (DAO), Chandradeo Prasad, said he would be able to say about the damage to crops only after getting reports from blocks of the district. According to reports, the thunderstorm caused extensive damage to different standing crops in the western part of the district like Areraj, Turkauliya, Harsidhi, Sugauli, Banjariya, and Paharpur blocks.
