Gopalganj: The court of ADJ 1, Gopalganj, Ram Prakash, sentenced to seven year rigorous imprisonment three persons including a woman in a case of stabbing on May 12, 2011. The court also slapped a fine of Rs 5,000 each on the three convict. The court awarded the punishment after hearing the arguments of both defence and prosecution lawyers.

The incident took place when one Shobha Devi, a native of Rakba Britti Tola under Bhore police station, was returning home with her family members after attending a marriage. Five persons including Nagendra Singh, Sanjay Lal Singh and Jairam Singh intercepted them and attacked them with knives. Five persons including a woman had sustained serious injuries in the attack and were admitted to Gorakhpur Medical College (Uttar Pradesh). Later, an FIR was lodged on the statement of Shobha Devi in which five persons of village Mathauli were made accused. One of the accused Nagendra Singh is still evading arrest while another accused Sanjaylal Singh has since died.

Additional Public Prosecutor (APP) Ramanchandra Mishra and defence lawyer Harischandra Mishra were also present on the occasion. All the convicts were sent to jail.
