Bokaro ( Jharkhand) : In a move  to bring out the hidden talent of every child keeping up with Indian tradition and values, the three-day Cultural Week of DPS Bokaro started on July 16, 2018, amid great fanfare at both primary and senior wings. The students exhibited their mettle in solo and group Tabla besides group songs based on Raagas which was highly appreciated by the gathering.

It may be mentioned here that DPS organises Cultural Week Programme every year and all the students of the school are members of one of the six houses – Ganga, Jamuna, Ravi, Chenab, Sutlej and Jhelum and every house participates in the cultural week programme in different categories including classical music—vocal,  various forms of dances, group songs and others.

On the first day on July 16, three events took place — solo Tabla, group Tabla and group songs- which was presented by all the 6 houses.

In the Senior Wing, in the solo Tabla performance based on “Rupak Taal Theme” Kapil Kumar of Sutlej House got the first position followed by Harsh of Jamuna House while Shiven Sinha of Ganga House was placed third position.

In the Group Song competition based on Raagas with the theme being “Seasonal Songs”, Jamuna House was declared the Champion while Raavi House was declared the first runners up while Jhelum House stood third.

In the Primary Wing Group Tabla Competition, Chenab House got the first position, Sutlej House got second while Raavi House & Jhelum House were declared joint third.

The programme was inaugurated by DPS Director and Principal Dr Hemlata S Mohan, who in her address after the programme, lauded the performances of the students along with teachers and house wardens. She said there is always room for improvement and hence steps should be taken to improve the quality of performance which could be par excellence and more mesmerising.

Guest Judge Pandit Chetan Joshi said that music and academics are interwoven when it comes to their academic benefits. For instance, a child who practises Tabla tends to possess beautiful handwriting and also cultivates analytical skills.
