Patna: With the arrest of three youth on December 19, Patna Police claimed to have solved the case related to theft of Rs 5.85 lakh cash from a post-office at RMS Colony under Kankerbagh police station. Police also recovered over Rs 3.70 lakh from the possession of the arrested youth, said Patna Senior SP (SSP) Manu Maharaj.
Police said that on November 20 night, armed criminals, after breaking open the lock of a post-office at RMS Colony, stole Rs 5.85 lakh cash from there. An FIR was lodged with the Kankerbagh police station in this connection.
Taking serious note of the incident, Patna SSP Manu Maharaaj directed SDPO (Sadar) and Kankerbagh ps SHO to crack the case and immediately arrest of those involved in the theft of cash. A special police team was also constituted at the instance of SSP, who directed the members of the team to see the video footages of local CCTV cameras and the records of other criminals. The SSP was himself monitoring the case.
Police said that acting on the basis of technical investigation and inputs collected from the locals, police team came to know the involvement of one Pappu Kumar in the theft of cash from the post-office, who had left Patna after the theft. Police said that as the cops were behind Pappu’s relatives and his acquaintances, they came to know that Pappu is coming to Beur locality to meet his friend behind Beur central Jail. A police team reached there. Pappu tried to escape after seeing the police team but the cops chased and nabbed him.
The SSP said that Pappu confessed his involvement in theft of cash from the post-office and also disclosed the names of his two other associates, who were later arrested by the police. He said that acting on the revelations made by the trio, a police team recovered Rs 3, 70,790 cash. SSP Maharaaj said that the arrested youth told the police that they had watched a movie on November 20 night (9 pm to 12) and the plan to steal cash from the post-office located at RMS Colony was made in the cinema hall.
SSP said that the arrested youth had been identified as Pappu Sahni, a resident of Ambedkar Chowk under Patrakarnagar ps, Patna, Manoj Kumar, a resident of village Karaya under Karaya ps in Nalanda, and Suraj Kumar alias Suraj Mahto, a resident of Jaganpura under Patrakarnagar ps, Patna. He said that police recovered stolen Rs 3,70,790 cash besides an iron rod for breaking locks.
